Emporium Black’s New Clothes

Mucha La Plume calendar

A large print of Mucha’s La Plume Calendar hung framed by my bedroom door for the majority of my childhood and I always loved it. My bed was positioned in the opposite corner of the room so every night as I lay in bed I would study that incredible piece of art and when I awoke it would be one of the first things I saw. To this day I still see Mucha’s style reflected in my own taste and illustration style. Art influences our lives.

My childhood was troubled and I ran away with the carnival at 14. When I finally came home it was only a few months before I moved out to live in a house a bunch of friends and I rented. The large framed Mucha print is the only thing I remember bringing with me and I hung it over my bed with great reverence.

Lately I have been digging deep with these plants and the truffles I make with them. I realized I didn’t need to wear anyone else’s clothes for me to successfully do the work I am called to do. I sensed a clear need to free myself and my truffles from things that do not truly reflect who I really am. And so the idea came to me to redress Emporium Black with this meaningful piece of art. An important step on my path that says, this is the real me.

Besides the website, all of our truffle packaging and our What to Expect cards have been updated with this imagery as well.

I am proud of how far I have come and I am grateful to not just the plants, spirits, & formative people in my life, but also all of the beauty all around me for when I see it it gives me strength and brings me peace.
