Emporium Black truffles are the result of years of honing my skills through studies and experiments. Each plant reveals its secrets and wisdom. Nature is my passion, requiring patience, respect, and commitment. I build relationships with plants, learning from their guidance. Every scent and texture adds to my knowledge. My preparations blend nature's wisdom to create our truffles' unique experiences & flavors.

I was fortunate to have crossed paths with numerous traditional healers and elders during my journey. They graciously welcomed me into their fold and shared their invaluable knowledge. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been chosen by these magnificent plants to create these delightful chocolates. It is a privilege to collaborate with nature in crafting these delectable treats, a harmonious union of botanical wisdom and culinary artistry.

About Seamus Black

I am Seamus (SHAY-mus) Black, the creator of Emporium Black’s Nightshade Truffles. I started this business in 2019 at age 53. I am a retired chef and chocolatier as well as an artist and plant lover. My original idea behind these nightshade truffles stems from my years living on reservations and being heavily involved with the Native American Church (peyote). During that time I participated in many meetings and ceremonies, living as part of that community. Once I returned to the culture I was originally raised in, I was looking for a way to help non-Native Americans make similar connections with plants as well as giving these plants back to the people by helping to bring them back out of the shadows.

My journey into this field spans over three decades, during which I also delved into the study of Eastern philosophy. I dedicated a significant portion of my life to exploring Vipassana meditation, which greatly contributed to my understanding of the mind-body connection.
Not only is Emporium Black a testament to my diverse experiences and expertise, but it is also an LGBTQI owned business. As a transgender person, I made the decision to transition when I turned fifty, and I am fiercely proud to be a visible advocate for transgender rights and acceptance.
In addition to my role as a business owner and advocate, I am also a devoted parent to two teenagers who bring immense joy to my life. They are without a doubt the light of my life, the source of endless inspiration, and the best thing that has ever happened to me. Emporium Black is a reflection of my multifaceted identity and my unwavering commitment to promoting inclusivity, self-discovery, and love in all its forms.
